Makani = Wind
As there are different ways to describe wind, there are different types of Makani:
Variable wind, makani pālua.
Fair wind, makani ʻoluʻolu,
BTW====Sound of wind, wī
Speaking of the Wind……..Makani….. Over the Last few weeks, it was wet and windy. As i told you in episode 71 the best time of year to visit hawaii, there are two seasons in Hawaii. The Sunny Season and the Rainy season. Ladies and gentlmen and melekini new and old…. we have entered the rainy season. That doesn’t mean it rains all the time it just means its more likely to rain…. all day or all week. Last week was a soggy bottom kick off to the rainy season. KHON has a report about flooding in Ewa. Where fish were swimming residents back yards.
<SOT>
As you heard in the story the flooding was likely due to a clogged canal.
The city should be working on that before they soen another dime on homeless bums that trash our water ways and city streets.
Seasonal Transition: Sunny to Rainy Season
As we move from November into December, Hawaii transitions from its sunny, dry season to the wetter months. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has projected above-average rainfall from December through April, indicating a wetter-than-usual rainy season ahead.
This shift brings more frequent showers, particularly in windward and mauka (mountain) areas, while leeward sides may still enjoy substantial sunshine. It’s essential to stay updated with local forecasts and be prepared for sudden weather changes during this period.

Recent Shark Incident in Maui
On November 1, 2024, a 61-year-old surfer named Kenji Nonaka was attacked by a shark off Waiehu Beach Park in Maui. The shark bit his right leg, completely severing it below the knee. Emergency responders used tourniquets to control the bleeding, and he was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition. Following the attack, the beach park was closed, and officials issued warnings for people to stay out of the water within a mile radius of the incident until at least noon on Saturday, subject to extension if further shark sightings occurred.
This incident serves as a reminder to exercise caution in the ocean, especially during periods of increased shark activity.
