“Anilā, Nalu a me Pō Lani”

HiP weekly Weather Forecast-  Friday April 12th to Thursday April 18th 2024

Weather Conditions for Oahu-

https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/usa/honolulu/ext

Its dimly lit, wet, rainy and cloudy but still beautiful aloha friday. Currently it’s 72° with light rain and the clouds are starting to break. This is the weather that we have at the Honolulu airport around the islands. It’s pretty cloudy around the mountains can’t see the mountain peaks it’s wet there are no rainbows because there’s very little sunshine, however the waterfalls they are flowing. Saturday there will be a break in the rain and the temperatures will reach a high of 84° but then Sunday it’ll be a cool and wet day again with 100% chance of precipitation temperatures will only reach 77° on Sunday Monday pretty much the same story but then Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. It’s going to be some beautiful days in Hawaii ne!

Winds- the winds are pretty light this week currently 10 miles an hour coming directly out of the east and then through the weekend the winds will shift to coming up from the south, but on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday when it will be nice and sunny, the winds will be calm at 5 to 10 miles an hou coming out of the north, we will have our regular tradewinds returned by next Thursday

Temperatures average-

Highs will be range between 77- 83F (25-28C) with the warmest day – saturday and the sunniest day on thursady

with a 50% chance of percipitation this weekend through monday

Lows will be declining through the week 71 – 65F (21-16C) with the coolest night – next sunday which will also be the wettest

Sea Temperatures:

https://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/Hawaii/seatemp

82 F (26C) drop one degree from last week the average temp is 80 F

On the website surf forecast they have a heat map or a sea temperature map and they’ve been keeping track of sea temperature since 1984 and that’s how we know our average is about 80° at this time of year but as we approach summer the sea temperature will probably go up and reach closer 84degrees

This Week

Sunrise- around 6:10 am

Sunset- around 6:50 pm

Daylight – more than 12 1/2 hours

Song: Faces and Places By: Salon Kingsadore,

Last song on their Album: Mountainn Rescue

https://youtube.com/salonkingsadore

I think I use this song for a rainy day surf session if I get a chance to go through the archives all attach it to the show notes for episode 80

North Shores

Currently it’s one to two on the North Shore dropping through the weekend but come Monday and Tuesday it could reach at 6 to 8 feet which means the faces will be 10 to 15 feet and don’t forget the wind will be really slow on Tuesday and the weather will be nice, so it’ll be epic conditions on the north shore

West Side

The west side is also flat to a foot but there will be a wraparound on Monday and Tuesday where the waves will reach 5 to 7 feet, which means you may even see a 12 foot face on the west side on Monday and Tuesday. The conditions will still be nice. The winds will be coming down out of the north, but that should make for some nice hollow waves.

South Shores

On the south facing shores, it’s one with the occasional two and maybe we will see an occasional 3 foot face possibly 4 foot face mid week

East Side

On the east side it’s 2 to 3 and dropping to a measly flat to a foot by Tuesday so most the actual beyond the north and west facing Shores Monday and Tuesday and the next well comes through and that is your Surf Report

CONTESTS

Hawaii Surf Association Surf Series surf haleiwa beach park… Alii Beach Park 4/4 – 4/5

ALI’I

It was once a sport only reserved for aliʻi (Hawaiian royalty), which is why surfing is often called the “sport of kings.” King Kamehameha I himself was known for his surfing ability. With the end of the Hawaiian kapu (taboo) system in 1819, commoners were allowed to freely participate in the sport.

Why did the Hawaiian KAPU taboo system and? Oh, that’s a story for another podcast but lock this little factoid away in your beautiful brain and we will tap your memory system again in the future and refer to the rule where only Hawaiian kings could

surf so stay tuned and stay stoked for that

now time let’s step outside and take a look up in the beautiful, heavenly skies and see what we have in our night skies this week

ASTRONOMICAL NOTES:

Did you see the eclipse? it was pretty early about 7:12 am. I posted a photo on my instagram account. HawaiiPostsPodcast. No i didn’t go out to the east side to watch it i took a picture of the local Television news

But i did get an email

Tomestokes, you said the next partial eclipes will be october of this year. I couldn;t find anthing on it. My dad and mom went to Kahuku in the 90’s. I live in buffalo new york.  Love the show hope to visit hawaii some day. – Abraham

We will see two more eclipses in Hawaii this year one lunar eclipse and one solar eclipse. The pre-lunar eclipse will take place on September 17 and the partial solar eclipse will take place on October 2. There will be a total lunar eclipse coming up in March, but we’ll get to that next year. But you live over in New York you will not see the partial solar eclipse as the path goes through Hawaii down towards South America, but you will get to see the partial lunar eclipse. It will be very slight, but look for a small fraction of the upper portion of the moon to be while here in Hawaii will see a little bit larger portion of the moon eclipsed and that will be along the top side picture a pumpkin when you cut off the top. That’s a nice autumn reference.
