China Uemura’s Annual longboard Surf classic will be held this week at Kuhio Beach in Waikiki.  China Uemura was a legendary beach boy on the the beaches of Waikiki he taught thousands of visitors to surf and he also cherished his family and surfed regularly with his daughter. HE started the  the Wahine Surf Classic. Sadly he passed away this year in January but his legacy lives on as the contest is slated to go this week

It’s a surf celebration at this night of live music with the Mana Maoli Kupu Collective and Chuku Boy from The Late Ones opening for surfing singer-songwriter Landon McNamara.

Birth of the Endless Summer July 29
Birth of The Endless Summer follows Californian surf pioneer Dick Metz as he vagabonds the globe from 1958 to 1961, inspiring the work of his friend, Bruce Brown.

Surfing the 50’s: Tribute to Joey Cabell July 30
HoMA continues its collaboration with the Bud Browne Film Archives to present Bud Browne’s golden era film Surfing the 50’s. This screening is a special tribute to surfing great Joey Cabell, who will be joined by other surf luminaries in a talk story in honoring our surfing kupuna greats and today’s big-wave riders.

Jazz Maui presents the Fourth Annual Jazz Blues and Beyond Festival Concert Saturday, July 29in the Courtyard Green at the Kihei Charter School. Featuring legendary guitarist/singer/music director from the Conan O’Brien Show Jimmy Vivino and an all-star line-up, the festival concert also includes food booths, an art hale, and a designated dance area. Jimmy Vivino is best known for being Conan O’Brien’s music director, guitarist and bandleader for 26 years. However, his experience in the music business predates that by many years. Jimmy has produced, lead bands, and recorded with a countless number of rock and roll and blues artists including Bob Weir, Keith Richards, Elvis Costello, Phoebe Snow, Dion, Laura Nyro, and Al Kooper to name a few. Namolokama OʻHanalei Canoe Club is holding the 2023 Hanalei Bay Swim Challenge for the 14th time!  7am – 11:30 am. This amazing event occurs in beautiful Hanalei Bay on July 29, 2023. The HBSC consists of five fun and competitive races. There is something for everyone, from the Keiki 12 & under Pier swim to the 1,000 and 3,000-meter swims. Kauai’s newest and only last Saturday of the month Night Market. Anahola Market place on Kauai 4-9pm. The Moloka’i 2 O’ahu Paddleboard Race Race starts at sunrise on Molokai. The finish line is in Hawaii Kai Oahu at the Maunalua Bay Beach Park. The Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard race is an open-ocean endurance paddleboard challenge, featuring racers in both the prone and stand-up (SUP) divisions and new this year the FOIL division. Connecting the islands of Moloka’i and O’ahu, this 32-mile race crosses the Ka’iwi Channel, also known as the Moloka’i Channel. Men and women from more than 25 countries will face challenging conditions as they navigate the fastest downwind route over one of the deepest channels in the world.Top athletes typically complete the crossing in less than five hours, riding mid-channel waves that can crest more than 12 feet. The race starts on Kepuhi beach on the north shore of Moloka’i and finishes in Maunalua Bay Beach Park near Koko head crater. The 24th annual race returns after a 3 year hiatus due to the pandemic. Mike Vaz Presents: Comedy at The HI Dive Bar Saturday, July 29th, 7PM at the HI Dive Bar in Kealakekua 6-9pm Standup comedy is returning to South Kona after a brief hiatus! The HI Dive Bar has reopened under new management and it is looking fresh!  for a fun filled night full of laughs, absurdity, and good old dirty talk. FEATURING:Justine Smith, Yasir Bey, AJ Higlesias, Kevin Hobbs, and hosted by Mike Vaz. Jazz Maui presents Sunset Jazz from 5-7pm on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the Maui Ku’ia Estate Chocolate Factory in Lahaina. featuring Jeff Hellmer and Friends bassist Marcus Johnson, drummer Paul Marchetti, and trumpeter Paul January. Nature & Eco-Tourism Volunteer at Mokio Preserve located on the NorthWestern coastline of Molokai. 8am-2pm. Mokio Preserve is made up of 1700 acres of conservation lands where The Molokai Land Trust is actively working on multiple restoration projects, such as the Anapuka Dune Restoration Site and the Kawakiu Watershed Project. Activities include weeding, collecting seeds or plant cuttings and planting of native Hawaiian plants. Transportation to this off-road, remote location will be provided. Valley Isle Road Runners (VIRR)  provides a free group run every Wednesday at Kalama Park. In Kihei Maui Aug 2 – Dec 18 2024. Arrive 10-15 minutes early to talk story with your fellow runners and learn the route. All ages and abilities are welcome. We meet at the south end of Kalama Park near the volleyball courts. There is parking, a water fountain, and bathrooms nearby. Syphony in the Park Wed August 2 5:30-8pm. Experience the breathtaking power of a full symphony orchestra under the glow of a summer evening sky in the heart of Kailua. The HSO’s new music director, Dane Lam, will make his Windward O‘ahu debut as he conducts this free concert that makes for the perfect family outing.
